ADVOCACY: A CALL TO ACTION

The Need for Advocacy

Peninsula Task Force on Aging (PenTFA), recognizes that the challenges faced by older adults are growing more urgent every day. As our population ages, it is crucial that we take immediate action to ensure that older adults can live with dignity, independence, and respect.

Why Advocacy Matters Now

Rising Healthcare Costs: Older adults are disproportionately affected by rising healthcare costs. Without strong advocacy, many may be unable to afford the care they need.

Housing Insecurity: Affordable housing options for seniors are becoming increasingly scarce. Advocacy is essential to push for policies that provide safe and affordable housing for our aging population.

Social Isolation: Many older adults face loneliness and isolation, which can have severe impacts on their mental and physical health. Advocacy efforts can help create community programs and services that keep seniors connected and engaged.

Our Advocacy Efforts

Advocacy Day at the Capitol: Each year, we unite older adults, advocates, and state legislators from across Virginia to engage in meaningful discussions and support efforts that enable aging at home and in the community. This event is a cornerstone of our advocacy work, providing a platform for voices to be heard and for impactful change to be initiated.

Policy Advocacy: We work tirelessly to influence legislation that impacts older adults. Our focus areas include healthcare, transportation, nutrition, and housing. We advocate for policies that ensure older adults have access to the resources they need.

Community Engagement:  We host several legislative forums to bring community members and legislators together to discuss aging issues. These forums are vital for fostering dialogue, understanding, and collaboration on policies that impact older adults. Additionally, we organize events and discussions to highlight the issues facing older adults and to promote equity and justice.
